Mandy Pannett's interest in history, myth, literature and the natural world reveals itself through imagery and metaphor in this as in previous collections. Comments have been made frequently about the vitality, musicality, and visionary aspects of her writing. These qualities are present in 'Ladders of Glass' although the mood is more sombre and there is a noticeable emphasis on twenty-first century issues and dilemmas reflecting the author's ambition for poetry to make a difference, practically and imaginatively, to the world.
